Victorians went hungry last year

A large survey by Melbourne University's McCaughey
Centre found that one in 20 residents in the outer western
Melbourne suburb of Werribee ran out of food and couldn't
afford to buy more during the past year. The director Mr Wiseman
said " We also found that 6.1 per cent, or about 250,000
Victorians, could not afford to put food on the table at least

A record 7 million people, or one in every 32 American
adults, were behind bars, on probation or on parole by the
end of last year, according to the Justice Department. Of
those, 2.2 million were in prison or jail, an increase of

meddling with the sovereignty of Sri Lanka

It has now (December 2006) been disclosed that the
NGOs operating in Sri Lanka have been engaging in activities
that pose a threat to the governance and the sovereignty of
the country. These matters were revealed at the meeting of
the Parliamentary Select Committee chaired by Vijitha Herath,
member of parliament of the Peoples Liberation Front.
